I'm writing about one of my favorite books. It's called The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I'm sure some of you have read it. It tells the story of a boy named nobody, and in my opinion, he is a great character. Somehow I'm able to identify with him, even though we're practically polar opposites. He makes sense as a person, even if he really isn't a human at all, seeing as how he was raised by ghosts. His parents were mr. And mrs. Owens, and he is nobody owens, bod, for short. His name was given to him because when the ghosts found the child, they began to think of names, naturally, and after much fighting about who he looked like, they decided he looked like nobody but himself. So his name was nobody. Sometimes I feel like a nobody too. A lot, actually. Bod's mentor is Silas, a sullen, but wise occupant of the graveyard. He's almost like a father figure for nobody. Throughout the course of the book, it became evident to me that nobody looked up to Silas.
I have found a metaphor hidden within the book as well. The lady in gray, a woman often mentioned, almost as a leader, implies death. The dance with the lady in gray represents nobody's line between the living and the dead, and how thin it actually is. Her decision about nobody, letting a living child among the dead, shows the authors feelings on death itself. To me, it shows that the author doesn't think of death as a bad thing, almost a good one. It shows that good things come after a tragedy, the murder of a toddlers parents. I love this book, and I hope you love it too.

Book 2

Well I finished the blue girl, and the ending was just WOW. Sometimes the ends of books disappoint me, so I'm glad this one didn't. I started a new bok this week called "ever lost" by Niel Shustman. So far I really love it. I can hardly get any sleep if i start reading it. The basic story line is about a girl named Allie, a boy named Nick, and the strange little eleven year old named Lief. One day, Allie and Nick both get into a car crash. On their way to eternal rest, they crash into something, and are thrown into the nothingness known as ever lost. Of course, neither of them know where they are, hoe they got there, or how to get back until the one person already living there shows up. He has no name and doesn't grow. Allie names him Lief because he was found by them in the forest.
So far this book has confused me, excited me, and almost made me cry. I really recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Elsewhere, or anyone who enjoys a good thriller, because I can't put it down.

Book

The book i am currently reading is "The Blue Girl" by Charles De Lint. So far i am really enjoying it. It picks up on topics that most authors have trouble adressing. To me, that translates into courage, which is necesary in telling a good and interesting story, such as the one at hand. I can hardly put it down.
The main character? thats the thing. There are several, and the story is told from different view points at different times. At one point you might have one character speaking from the present, and then another character talking about the past. If i had to select a few characters that i would consider the most important, I would say Imogene and Maxine.
The basic plotline of the book is that Imogene is being haunted by images of her childhood imaginary friend, Pel Mel. He only ever speaks in cryptic tones, such as "ive missed you sideways". On top of that, every time he visits her dreams, whatever happens in that dream becomes real. On top of all that, the malicious fairies that inahbit her highschool decide that they want to murder her, and the resident ghost keeps trying to warn her of all the dangers that she has to deal with.
In my eyes, Imogene is easy to identify with. She has real problems, along with the ones that are fantasy. She has a real and imperfect personality, like the rest of us. Maxine is likewise. She's a little shy, and a little bit unhappy in her place in life, but shes a good person. Its just that not many people giver her a chance.
I really do reccomend this book to everyone because i dont think its one of those stories that you get over and over again. Its new, and its fun without being easy to read, and its one of the few books that has actually scared me. Overall, i havent finished it quite yet, but the last few chapters have me on the edge of my seat.
